iPad 2

So if the rumors are true, then the next gen iPad looks to be outfitted with a dual processor and a camera. There is much crying for USB and card slot support but not much response has been given by the Apple camp.

Apple is great at making sure that the longevity of it’s products is stretched to a limitless period of time. This means that the next generation of iPad will in no way have all the possible features we are looking for. Apple banks on the fact that current owners will sell there current tablet so that they upgrade the latest and greatest.

A snappier processor and a camera would be a welcome addition to the iPad. We could look forward to taking pics and FaceTime and freezers processor means greatest apps. The one sticky point is that now this will create a schism between the first gen and later iPads due to what each can run. We kinda went through this by finding HD versions of our favorite iPhone apps on the iPad. So, this also means a higher cost.

Regardless, it will be exciting to see the evolution of the iPad as time goes on. Anyway stating they are not interested is either unaware that a the current iPad exists or they are lying and have several RSS feeds they a linked to containing iPad updates.

Mobile Websites A Must?

The idea of making your website useable for mobile visitors has been around for nearly five years. After making many websites myself, I have been asked often by several clients as to whether they need a mobile website or not. The quick and easy answer is to figure out who your visitors to you website may be. Content changing sites at involve news, blogs or other constantly changing information already have the ability to be mobile with rss feeds. This is a great option to make sure your website has setup so that fans of your site can be just as updated as the site itself. This is a great, CHEAP method to make your site mobile.

Then there is the idea of actually making a separate site that the smartphone and mobile device users can view. The funny thing is that it appears that the technology is making your site more mobile and accessible than you may know. Here’s what I mean. I have a Droid X and have played with many phones including iPhones and with other devices such as the iPad. What I find is that these devices can view any website and easily zoom into specific areas of the pages making the website perfectly viewable on these mobile devices.

Essentially, my opinion of mobile sites is not to waste the time or money to make a dedicated site to mobile viewers. I find that I personally want to view the actual site and not some abbreviated version, and the tech behind these devices can make any site perfectly viewable. Thanks to Froyo (Android 2.2), Flash is now alive and kicking on these devices as well. Uhh, except for those Apple devices but I’m sure Steve Jobs or some third party will be allowed to fix that.

Start a Website Classes

So I started teaching classes to the masses for web design and development. This is actually my third class I have done and I have to admit that they are going quite well. Well in the sense that everyone who shows up leaves with more knowledge than when they entered and many are stoked to go and get something started.

I was skeptical at first about teaching this course because of the possibility of disparity in skill levels of the attendees. Plus, this is only a one hour presentation. I have to admit that I’m happy withe results so far and hope to keep on teaching. You can view the courses offered at yourlink.biz or at webclasseschicago.com

iPad Killer

Supposedly, there are ton of tablets coming out.  Every article I see asks the question if the next tablet will be and “iPad Killer”.  Apple, obviously set the bar high by rolling out a well working tablet.  Or did it?  Essentially, it really is just a large iPod Touch.  Ya, it has better graphic power to it and is much easier for reading, but it really doesn’t do much else than my 2nd generation Touch.  I’m speaking from experience since I have both devices.

Back to the bar being set high…Apple has been mostly know for taking something and making it better.  Computers, Operating Systems, phones, music players.  Some may argue that the Mac or OSX is not “better” but even those naysayers would have to admit that all those Apple products are considered premium.  Well, since they seem to make products better, has Apple finally tread into unfamiliar territory by being the first to come out with a tablet?  Ya, ya I know there were previous tablet hybrids but those aren’t even worth mentioning.The iPad is a new focus altogether and has proven to be successful.  So much so that now other companies and being the “Apple” of the world and trying to make an iPad killer.  Can it be done?  It seems whenever a tablet is mentioned, it’s production time gets pushed further and further back or the idea is dropped altogether.

Is making an iPad killer really all that hard?  I wonder how many think tanks are setup at different companies wasting countless corporate dollars just trying to dream up the next best thing.  Well, I think I can save you all the time and money.  Yes, after using the iPad myself and wondering “what would make this better?” There are many thoughts that can come to mind but one would be the golden ticket.  Make an iPad that supports Flash.  Done!

Yahoo Transition to Bing Complete

Yahoo, has finished its transition to Bing as the premier search engine for Yahoo searches.  What does this mean for Google?  Well, considering that Bing has been gaining ground the last few months it may continue to grow in popularity.  Will it surpass Google?  Not anytime soon but the Microsoft marketing department has done an outstanding job in creating the Bing brand.  With the partnering with Yahoo, Bing was bound to make some huge leaps and bounds.  Looks like search is no longer controlled by a single engine…not that it every was.

Website Building Blocks

There are many ways to build a website.  HTML is your basic building blocks but there are so many more compliments that can be used to wrap around your HTML.  These include, CSS, AJAX, JQUERY, Javascript, PHP and many more.  Being a master of all the languages is impossible but fortunately several of the languages integrated seamlessly with one another and make it easier for you to use.

STDS

Not long ago, I was asked to present an STD lecture to a singles group, ages 45 and older. Anytime I had been asked to speak about this before, it was for adolescents. I was not sure what this group would want to discuss. It quickly became apparent that the singles group needed the same information as our young people. So here are my tips for everyone on keeping sex “safer.”

These suggestions are fairly simple to follow:

* Talk to your partner
* Get STD screening
* Immunize
* Condoms are a must
* Don’t mix sex and alcohol or drugs
* Be safe in public settings

North Shore Decor

In 1975 Sam Yehaskel decided that he wanted to start a business that would reflect his creative side. He chose to start selling window treatments. At the time, vertical blinds were brand new and you could get them in at least half a dozen colors! A few years later the Yehaskels moved to Great Neck, NY where they remain today. As the business grew Sam began to fabricate draperies as well, which soon became the cornerstone of the business. Over time the window coverings industry has gone through many changes with offerings of hundreds of additional products in thousands of colors, styles and fabrics.
